Today is special...

There will never be another one exactly like the one happening right now…

I never consider this truism. I believe this to be due to the fact I am always in a hurry. Hurry to get here, there, do this, get that done, and on and on to the point of ad nauseam. I was on my way home today from getting my very favorite food in Keelung, dumplings and potstickers,  this afternoon when I saw something which cause me to pause in amazement. It was then I realized I witness these types of things on a daily basis. Maybe I should write about what I see?

January 17th 2013
When I was waiting for my food order to be completed a couple walked up to the shop front to order. This couple looked older. The man carried a beautiful little girl dressed in pink with pigtails in her hair. The woman carried a small blue bundle she nestled close to her body. I went over to peek at the baby she held. What I saw next caused me to do a double take. Here was this beautiful Taiwanese baby boy, midnight black hair, coffee and cream colored skin, dark, thick and long eyelashes, but with blue eyes staring back at me. He smiled, cooed, and raised his little hand. I touched his miniature hand and everything seemed right in the world for that brief time.

As I walked on back toward school traffic moved past me at lightening speeds. As I looked up at the sound of horn honking I saw a man on a scooter. This in itself is not odd or interesting. Seeing people on scooters is not anything out of the ordinary in this country. I have even seen four people riding on one scooter. I have seen a mother on the back of a scooter, pregnant and protecting an additional baby between herself and the driver. A person doing crazy things on scooters is nothing to write home about. However, this had to be the daftest thing I have ever witnessed a person do while driving a scooter. I am uncertain the reason behind the honking, but this guy seemed to have a death wish. This guy was weaving in and out of traffic, traffic including huge double decker buses traveling at high speeds, like he was the Mario Andretti of Keelung. Again, this is nothing to write home about. On the back of this guy’s scooter he had four (4) large propane tanks strapped to the scooter. I am uncertain is they were empty, I sure hope they were, but nonetheless four tanks strapped onto the back of his scooter. I believe the only thing to say at this point would be “Here’s your sign!” dumbass.
